Illegal to Transport - a car?

I was in Illinois and had to get to Idaho. My parents were helping me pick out a car to buy, and I bought it, but never even saw it before heading to the airport. I had to get to the airport quickly because my boyfriend's mom had bought us airline tickets for that night. I was frustrated that I couldn't just drive my car to Idaho instead of taking a plane.

Apparently, I hired a man my mom knew to drive the car from Illinois to Idaho.

When I got to Idaho, I stayed with my parents (how they got there, I have no idea), my brother, and my boyfriend. My mom had a baby doll that she was treating like a baby. When we got to the house, it was evening, and there was a mafia guy outside of the house who was asking questions about my car. He was driving a big van that was really nice inside. He pulled my brother out of the house and was questioning him pretty meanly. I ran outside with the baby doll and was crying telling him that it was my fault because I had hired someone to transport the car (apparently it was illegal the way I had done it). I told him I was sorry and that I didn't realize it was illegal. I asked what I could do, and he said I had to call some dude and get his permission and then he and would go back to Illinois and get my car for the price of gas with no markup.

I walked back inside still holding the baby doll and happy to not have to deal with the mafia guy anymore... knowing that (hopefully) I would get my car soon.
